Comment | This cemetery is located 25 feet north of Main Street (Route #117) at Ken Ray Drive at telephone pole # 152. It is 45 ft x 50 ft, in fair condition, with no enclosure and no historical cemetery sign. The cemetery contains 25 burials with 10 inscribed and 15 not inscribed fieldstones.
James Arnold visited this lot on 10 June 1904 and noted, “at the Washington Factory opposite the mills of Washington Co., lot protected. We understand Elder Benj. Roberts, the colored Baptist preacher, his wife, his wife’s sister and husband, and Eld. Benj. father are buried here. It was an ancient burial yard of the Brayton Family” (Vol. 6, page 308-309, Vol. 4, page 190 in hand written notes) Also recorded by Anthony Tarbox Briggs about 1950, his number 99.
Gideon Freeborn of Portsmouth [RI] sold 50 acres of land called lot #48 in the seven man’s land in Coventry to Thomas Brayton of Portsmouth [RI] on April 9, 1747. (Coventry Deed book #2, page 79)
