| Notes |
[one of the first printers in America and published one of the first newspapers, the New England Courant (in Boston). 16 year old Benjamin Franklin got his start writing for this paper. The paper often offended local authorities and Franklin followed in the footsteps of many other Boston outcasts in moving to RI. In 1732 he came to Newport and published the state's first newspaper, the RI Gazette. Only 12 issuescame out before it folded] 1734/5 |
